Lexi Reid

WHO AM I ??
My name is Alexandra Reid. I am 32 years old, born in Cape Town. I went to the German school, following that I went to Stellenbosch university where I graduated with a BSc in sport science (double majoring in physiology).
I have been an avid swimmer ever since I was a kid- I grew up surfing, doing lifesaving and did my first Robben Island swim (skins) with my dad in a relay team. This is where my love for swimming originates.
MY GOALS:
I have many goals, but most importantly I want to be better than I was yesterday. I want to perform as best I can on race day, both mentally and physically.
Those are my overarching goals, and then I have smaller more achievable goals. Swimming Robben Island again, but the full distance. Competing in an Ironman and going sub 10.30. Going under 5 hours for a 70.3.
WHAT IS MY WHY??
I have many, one of them being my dad. He used to be an avid cyclist and swimmer and would train really hard for all of his races.
He had a motorbike accident and had to have spinal fusion and many other surgeries- this unfortunately made it impossible for him to ever get on a bike again or do an open water swim due to the angle that his spine is fused at.
I want to compete and challenge my body because I know if he was able to, he would. He had completed multiple Robben Island crossings before his accident and had ridden 19 Argus cycle tours, and was on track for his 20th in the year that he had his accident.
Being able bodied, with the ability to push your body beyond what you think it is capable of- is an enormous gift that I never take for granted
